In the ongoing third ODI between India and West Indies, skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and put the visitors to bat first in Pune. Indian team included fast bowling duo Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah after leading the five-match series by 1-0.
ICC No.1 ranked ODI bowler Bumrah dismantled Windies openers early. But the veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been dropped from India’s T20 squad grabbed all the eyeballs after he took a stunning catch to dismiss Windies opener Chandrapaul Hemraj. In the sixth over of the Windies innings, Bumrah bowled a short ball to Hemraj to which he got an edge leading to an astonishing catch by former Indian captain. Lightning-quick Dhoni covered a lot of ground to take the stunner.
After selection Dhoni’s selection snub, BCCI official said, “Obviously, the selectors and team management had a good deliberation on this issue. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were present at the selection committee meeting. You think selectors could have gone ahead without their approval?”

The national selection committee has shown first signs of phasing him out from one of the two limited-overs formats and T20 certainly seems to be more convenient for the five wise men.
“It’s a given that Dhoni won’t be around when next ICC World T20 happens in Australia in 2020. So, there wasn’t any point continuing with him if he will not play World T20,” the official said.
