Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni in line to pad up for Jharkhand in domestic cricket: Report

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is in line to make his domestic return after missing a full season. A report in The Mumbai Mirror has suggested that there are indications of Dhoni padding up for his state in the second round of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018/19. Jharkhand, the state which he represents in domestic cricket, has a strong chance of making it to the next round. Ishan Kishan-led team has six wins from eight games and will be through to the next round if it wins its last tie of the league stage against Services More.

Should Jharkhand qualify for the next round, Dhoni might turn up for a game or two before the start of the international fixtures against West Indies, where he will be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for India. It was last in 2017/18 season that Dhoni played for his state. Under his leadership, Jharkhand made it to the semi-final of the same tournament before they lost to Bengal in the semi-final in Delhi.

In 2016/17 season, he travelled with the Ranji Trophy team as a mentor. He also met MSK Prasad, chief of the selection panel, during the tournament and it was during the same time that he stepped down as the captain of India’s limited-overs team. In 2017/18 season, Dhoni did not play for his state in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. He had informed the state association that he will not be available to participate in the tournament.
